How is How to Solve Linear Equations - Basic Steps

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Physical Therapy Assistant Programs In Illinois.

1)      First off, let us define a linear equation:

a.       A linear equation can be defined by what it contains: a linear expression and an equal sign.

b.      A linear expression is further defined as a term that does not have an exponent greater than or equal to 2. Examples: x + 2 = 4, x + y = 4, x + 3 = -8. Examples of equations that are not linear: x^2=9, x^2+ y^2=25, x^4=16.  In all these examples x and y are called variables because until you solve for them you do not know their actual value.

2)      In order to solve the linear equation you will need to get all terms of the changeable for which you are trying to solve for on the same side of the equation and put the remaining terms in the equation on the other side of the equal sign. Let me give a few examples to demonstrate this procedure.

a.       x+4=6

In this case we need to solve for x which is already on the left side of the equal sign. We need to move the 4 over to the other side so that we are left with the expression x = ?. The interrogate mark is for now a place possessor since we do not know what numerical value is exact to put in here. So how do we do stop this problem? We are guided by the equal sign, that is, anyone we do to one side we must do to the other side. To get rid of the 4 on the left side of the equation we can subtract 4 from the left side but we must also subtract 4 from the right side. This will leave us with x=2.  It's all the time a good idea to duplicate check to make sure you got the right answer. Plug in 2 for x and you will see that no ifs ands or buts you are exact 2+4=6.

b.      x-2=y

In this case we have 2 variables, which one do we solve for? The qoute will all the time tell us. Now, finding at this equation we know what y is equal to, that is, x-2, so let us solve for x which is already isolated on the left side of the equation. All that is left to do is to move the 2. To get rid of it we add 2 to both sides to zero out the 2 on the left side. This leaves us with x=y+2. Don't forget to check your answer. This completes the problem.

c.       x+2=2x-5

Now we have x on both sides of the equation as well as numbers on both sides. We will need to detach the x and detach a estimate as well. If we were to subtract an x from both sides of the equation that would get rid of the x on the left side and leave an x on the right side. Now the linear equation looks like 2=x-5. Adding 5 to both sides will solve the equation, x would be equal to 7. Make sure to check it.
